Sig Sauer is on the move again in New Hampshire, this time to a 35-acre facility in the Crossroads Industrial Park in Rochester.
The company is keeping things in the Granite State, with plans to acquire a multi-building campus in Rochester on the 35-acre industrial park site. The campus can accommodate up to 210,000 square feet of space. The company said the expansion is for additional manufacturing space and continued market growth.
Sig Sauer will move its current operations in Dover to Rochester, a neighboring city.
“We are incredibly excited about completing the acquisition of a new facility in Rochester," said Ron Cohen, President & CEO, "which gives Sig the much-needed flexibility to expand our manufacturing operations in the region and grow our workforce.”
The expansion is a result of a collaboration with the city of Rochester and the state of New Hampshire, including the New Hampshire Business Finance Authority.
“This partnership provides an exciting opportunity for the City of Rochester and will bring in 300 new, high-quality jobs to the city,” said James Key-Wallace, executive director of the state's Business Finance Authority. “We were pleased to work closely with the state of New Hampshire and the city of Rochester to make this happen. Our collaborative approach shows New Hampshire is committed to growing our businesses here in the state and is always looking at creative opportunities. We want Granite State companies to know they can count on us for innovative solutions when they are ready to expand their operations.”
Sig Sauer's world headquarters is in Pease International Tradeport in Newington, New Hampshire. It has about 2,000 employees in six additional locations in the state along with operations in Arkansas and Oregon.
“The expansion of Sig Sauer’s New Hampshire operation is exciting and welcome news as our economy continues to grow,” said New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu. “We pride ourselves on working hand-in-hand with our partners in the private sector to expand economic opportunity for working families across the Granite State — and this partnership between the State of New Hampshire, City of Rochester, and Sig Sauer does just that.”
Sig Sauer's training academy is located in Epping, which is south of Rochester and Dover. Its facility in Arkansas manufactures ammunition and the one in Oregon produces optics. The New Hampshire facilities produce and ship a variety of firearms, from pistols to military weapons.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Sig Sauer to Rochester. The new location will provide great job opportunities to our state’s workforce and offer advanced manufacturing capabilities to the region,” said Mayor Caroline McCarley, City of Rochester. “I also admire their commitment to work with our high school students in the Richard W. Creteau Regional Technology Center to gain skills that can be transferred into a wide variety of career paths.”
Sig Sauer has focused its main production efforts in New Hampshire over the years. In 2012 it moved its headquarters into its current home in Pease International Tradeport. It also moved some production facilities at that time and invested in a multi-million-dollar renovation.
“We’ve tripled in size over the last five years, which is what that has been driving our need for additional space,” Steve Shawver, a vice president and general counsel for SIG Sauer said at the time of the 2012 move. ” Our (Exeter) facility is very crowded. We need additional manufacturing space to produce more products.”
Sig Sauer moved its ammunition production facilities to Arkansas in 2016 from Kentucky.
