Leupold & Stevens Partners With Mule Deer Foundation to Host Black-Tailed Deer Summit
Leupold & Stevens, Inc. recently partnered with the Mule Deer Foundation and Oregon Hunters Association in hosting the first-ever Black-Tailed Deer Summit at the company’s headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, April 20-21, 2022 (photo above).
The Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) assembled an extensive group of biologists, state fish and game department employees, key non-profit organizations, and regional Federal program leads to discuss the conservation of black-tailed deer, challenges to natural habitat, and the future opportunities that MDF can coordinate with partners on the western coast of the United States, Alaska, and Canada. The goal for the Summit included raising awareness between partners around black-tailed deer conservation efforts and highlighting the unique challenges facing the species.

Rock Outdoors to Represent Bear Archery in Northeast
The Bear Archery family of brands recently announced that New York-based sales group Rock Outdoors has been selected to represent the brands’ full suite of archery, bowfishing and sporting goods equipment in the Northeast. Rock Outdoors will be responsible for building upon existing relationships while also capturing additional market share in New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Maine, Maryland, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Connecticut.
The Bear Archery brands consist of well-known names such as Bear Archery, Bear X Crossbows, Trophy Ridge, SIK Broadheads, and Cajun Bowfishing. The portfolio has seen record growth over the last several years and is looking to keep the momentum heading into the second half of 2022 and 2023. The new relationship with Rock Outdoors is a strategic and aggressive venture to further develop the group of brands within the Northeast states.

Paige Pearce Breaks Record in Redding Victory
May 5 marked the start of the 2022 NFAA Marked 3D National Championship in Redding, California, and Team Bowtech’s Paige Pearce won the 2022 Female Championship division.
During days one and two, Pearce was in a tight battle with her fellow pros, all within 1 point of each other. On day three, Pearce shot a perfect 440. To top off the victory, she also set the official record of 1535. This is Pearce’s ninth appearance on the podium in 2022.
After the tournament, Pearce said: “I’m so happy to be back on top of the podium at The Western Classic Trail Shoot! This event is three days long, and has targets from 3-101 yards that are uphill, downhill, and side hill. On top of that there were challenging winds, a little rain, and always the struggle of your sight tape being consistent on all three days. I was able to shoot strong scores each day, only dropping 5 points total for the entire weekend. My 1535 broke the old record by two points, and I’m still in shock that I was able to post that score. Even shooting a new Reckoning 38 for the weekend, it worked flawlessly with my shot style and gave me the forgiveness I needed to come out on top!”
"During the tournament, I followed Paige on the course. It was awesome to see her perform and her fun-loving attitude throughout," said Todd Snader, Bowtech brand and shooting staff manager. "This shows that pros like her are the foundation to keep the sport of competitive archery fun, all while being one of the top archers in the world."
NASP Returns to In-Person Competition
The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) returned to in-person bullseye competition with the 2022 Western National Tournament at the Mountain America Exposition Center in Sandy, Utah, on April 29-30, 2022. This was the first return to the western location since the Covid-19 pandemic caused the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 events there. A total of 1,359 archers, from 22 states, attended this year’s bullseye tournament. For several western archers, this year’s event was the first time they had qualified to attend a NASP® national competition. In addition to the exciting bullseye tournament, The International Bowhunting Organization’s NASP/IBO 3D Challenge was also held with 968 participants from 19 states. The results of the 2022 Western IBO/3D Competition can be found by clicking here.
NASP also experienced an exciting first-ever event while in Sandy; The inaugural JROTC Western National Tournament competition was held. In this first-of-its-kind event, 132 JROTC Cadets from eight states competed and winners were announced at the end of the competition.

It was an exciting new chapter as JROTC programs from across the country began offering the NASP experience for its students. The next opportunity for JROTC programs to compete will
be held during the NASP Eastern National Tournament on May 12-14 to be held in Louisville, Kentucky.
As the 2022 Western National competition comes to an end, archers from the eastern portion of the United States will now gear up for their opportunity to compete. NASP will conduct the Eastern National Tournament on May 12-14 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Scores from both tournaments (Eastern and Western), will then be combined to determine the individuals and teams that will be named as overall champions and then advance to the Open Championship, June 23-25, 2022, also in Louisville, Kentucky.

Our event not only brings huge crowds, but it illustrates what is so wonderful about our program — teams, individuals, and families having a safe, great day participating in archery competition. We are committed to expanding our offering of a national event to a western location and are so pleased with our success and growth in the Salt Lake City/Sandy area. Working with our partner IBO, we are excited about the days ahead for growth in bullseye and 3-D archery. It reminds us of what we witnessed during the early days of NASP — a lot of smiling people telling us that they cannot wait to do this again!”
