During a recent product seminar with Remington Outdoor Company, a top official with sister company AAC said the top mission for silencer makers is to "educate the public" on the benefits and availability of suppressors. Chief among that awareness campaign is to continue to push for changes to state game laws to allow for suppressor use while hunting.

The logic is that if more shooters use suppressors for hunting and recreation, the closer we'll be to changing the National Firearms Act that since the 1930s has made suppressors tough to buy and expensive as heck with a $200 tax.

Well, things seem to be working as the Ohio senate just passed a bill to legalize hunting of game animals in the state using suppressed firearms. 

“I believe this bill has broad consensus,” state Sen. Bill Coley, R-West Chester, told the Columbus Dispatch. “This is a good law. It will help update and improve our regulations in this area.”

Ohio is the 29th state to legalize hunting with suppressors. Florida just passed a change to game laws to allow for hunting most game animals with suppressors, though activists have threatened a law suit to overturn the change. During our conversation at the Remington event, we bandied around the idea of what it would be like if suppressors could be sold over the counter like any other accessory...how awesome would that be?
