For several years now, the thermal category at the annual SHOT Show has been expanding more rapidly than we can keep up with — but a few brands still manage to stand out in the increasingly crowded market. One of those is Armasight, known for quality thermal products that offer excellent value for the price, and we stopped by the Armasight booth at the 2025 SHOT Show to get a peek at the new products the company is introducing this year.
First up, the Commander 640 Thermal Weapon Sight, powered by Armasight’s Iron Wolf platform and the proprietary ArmaCORE™ 640x480 12-micron thermal sensor, designed to deliver superior clarity and smooth 60Hz performance. Equipped with a 35mm germanium lens, this optic provides sharp, high-contrast imagery and boasts a detection range of up to 1,300 meters, even in the most challenging conditions — whether total darkness, fog, smoke or adverse weather.
It’s made with durability in mind, and although it’s ideal for medium- and short-range engagements, the Commander 640 is rated for up to a .50 BMG. It’ll be equally at home on a rimfire rifle or even an airgun, with all the power and precision of Armasight’s popular Contractor scope in a more compact, lightweight package. It’s got all the features hunters have come to expect from this brand, but weighs just 1.39 pounds and measures 9.48 × 3.61 × 3.32 inches. It runs on two CR123 batteries and retails for $4,299. Armasight tells us it’ll be shipping in spring.
Next up, the Operator 640 Thermal Clip-On, which turns any 1-6X traditional daytime scope into a thermal scope in seconds. It shares many of the features of the Commander 640, including video and image capture, but instead of being designed as a standalone thermal unit, it simply attaches to a traditional scope for any hunters who want to have the option to run either, or who are attached to their traditional scope and don’t want to give it up, but still want thermal capability.
The Operator 640 is built for versatility and simplicity. A quick-detach mount ensures rapid attachment and removal, while intuitive three-button controls allow for easy operation. It integrates seamlessly, with no need to re-zero the gun after adding or removing the unit. Hunters can customize their experience with multiple color palettes and image detail enhancements, optimizing visibility and situational awareness for all sorts of applications. “The Operator 640 embodies our mission to empower users with technology that’s as intuitive as it is powerful,” said Steve Lemenov, Senior Director of Marketing at Armasight.
The Operator is now available for pre-order and should be shipping soon, according to Steve, with an MSRP of $4,299.
As if two product launches weren’t enough, Armasight introduced a third product at SHOT: a handheld scanner called the Warden 640. Like the Operator and Commander, the Warden 640 is rugged and durable, with a 35mm germanium lens to provide sharp, high-contrast visuals. It uses the same ArmaCORE™ 640x480 12-micron thermal sensor for excellent clarity and smooth performance. With a compact design and a wide field of view, the Warden is ideal for hunting, scouting, search and rescue, surveillance, law enforcement and more.
It also offers video and image capture, multiple color palettes and image enhancements, USB-C connectivity and more. At just 22.4 ounces, the Warden 640 offers maximum portability without sacrificing capability. Even just scanning the show floor with it, it was easy for me to see how lightweight and simple to use it is, offering all the features a hunter would need in a slick, easy-to-carry package. Retailing (suggested) for $3,799, the Warden 640 is expected to start shipping in April.
With these three launches, Armasight is poised to offer hunters and shooters more thermal imaging options than ever. Though we’ve only had a chance to handle them on the show floor, it’ll be exciting to see how they perform afield.
