In a recent Archery Business article titled “The Business of Bowsights,” I passed along bowsight stocking and sales advice from three top-tier archery retailers. In this short follow-up piece, I’m giving my opinion on three bowsights you should consider stocking in your store.

Adjustable Single-Pin

As an avid bowhunter and past archery technician, I have ran the gamut, or so it seems, on bowsights. However, years ago a disease in my eyes forced a sight change purposed in allowing me to continue to bowhunt, plain and simple. Keratoconus is a bit like astigmatisms on steroids — star bursting of multi-pins caused significant hardship and I began to believe my bowhunting days had ended.

Fortunately, I found HHA Sports bowsights and Specialty Archery peep sights. For me, the current solution for my problem vision is an HHA King Pin single-pin sight with 2X magnifying lens, as well as a hooded Specialty Archery peep sight complete with a No. 6 verifier lens. The combination completely renewed bowhunting for me at a time when I thought that perhaps my stick-and-string days were coming to a close.

Single-Pin Competition

Adjustable Multi-Pin

Recently, Sword Sights have become the go-to bowsight for countless hunters, and their pro shop presence continues to grow by leaps and bounds. Sword has found a sweet spot for good reasons, including rugged construction and precision adjustability. One of Sword’s most popular sights in the Jury Multipin 2.0. This premium bowsight boasts tool-less windage and elevation micro-adjustability, third axis adjustment, five pins in either .010 or .019, internal rheostat LED illumination, a high-visibility shooter’s ring, shooter-angled yardage tape and Sword’s Fast Track elevation technology.

At first blush, there doesn’t seem to be anything not to like on the Jury Multipin 2.0. If I weren’t so visually challenged, this particular sight just might have found a forever home on my bow.

Sidebar: Peep Sights 101

While a peep sight isn’t necessary, most compound shooters, including myself, certainly use them. Considerations for peep sight selection should include purpose. Is the peep sight for shooting, hunting or even night hunting — understanding the latter does require a larger peep sight, at least 3/16-inch. The peep sight should be sized to align with the bowsight’s ring and deliver a comfortable sight picture. In addition, a shooter with vision problems might need a peep sight with some type of clarifying or verifying lens.

As a shooter with compromised vision, my go-to peep sight is a hooded model with a No. 6 verifier lens from Specialty Archery Products. For me, the peep with a single-pin sight has been a winning combination.
