Tim Gillingham Earns ASA 2022 Shooter of the Year in Senior Pro
Team Bowtech’s Senior Pro shooter Tim “The Hammer” Gillingham achieved an impressive double victory during the recent ATA Classic. He took home Senior Pro Shooter of the Year honors after taking gold in the event. Gillingham has been on the podium in every ASA appearance this season. ASA SOY honors go to the most consistent, highest scoring ASA shooter. Gillingham is known for his solid, high-caliber shooting and his poise under competitive pressure. He left no doubt about the top spot this year.
After his double win, Gillingham said, “Top performance requires the best equipment. I’ve learned the hard way how big of a deal that is. That’s why I chose my Reckoning 38. I can’t afford problems at this level of competition.”
“I always say it’s no surprise to see Tim win, and then he surprises me and tops his prior win with new ones,” said Todd Snader, brand manager for Bowtech Archery. “If you’re a competitive individual; he’s inspiring. If you’re not a competitive person; he’s entertaining. Anyone who hasn’t had an opportunity to watch Tim shoot, should absolutely tune in. We’d like to congratulate Tim! We’re thrilled to be able to provide him with the equipment he needs to be the champion he is.”
Paige Pearce Earns ASA 2022 Shooter of the Year in Women’s Known 50
Team Bowtech’s Paige Pearce has earned the title of ASA 2022 Shooter of the Year in the Women’s Known 50 class. This highly coveted honor is a culmination of Paige’s performances at all the 2022 ASA events. It is representative of the consistency of the archer in addition to them securing as many podium-topping performances as possible throughout the season.
ASA blends the tournament scores and placements at all their events to find the SOY. It’s a difficult challenge to have consistent, high scores in enough events to earn the honor of SOY.
When asked for her thoughts on winning, Paige said, “After starting ASA this season, I made it a priority early on to try and win the Shooter of the Year title. I had a really consistent season and was able to shoot a respectable score at every ASA, which allowed my reckoning 38 and I to win the 2022 Shooter of the Year!”
S3DA Hosts 5th Annual Outdoor Target National Championship
The Scholastic 3-D Archery Association (S3DA) recently hosted its 5th annual S3DA Outdoor Target National Championship at Joyce Park in Fairfield, Ohio. More than 250 student archers from 63 S3DA teams across 12 states gathered to compete for their chance to earn the title of “2022 S3DA Outdoor Target National Champion”. In addition, students who shot the Indoor National Championship, 3D National Championship and this Outdoor Target National Championship qualified to become the 2022 S3DA National Shooters of the Year.
S3DA Hosts 10th Annual 3-D National Championships
The Scholastic 3-D Archery Association (S3DA) recently held its 10th Annual S3DA 3-D National Championship in collaboration with the Rend Lake Area Tourism Council, the Rend Lake Project Office & Visitor Center, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the North Marcum Multiple Resource Area in Rend Lake, Illinois. Nearly 700 youth archers from across the nation participated for their chance to be crowned a “National Champion” in their division and class.
Holly Helton, S3DA Executive Director said, “With the worldwide chaos of the coronavirus pandemic, we had to put on hold the decision to host the 3-D National Championship at Rend Lake, due mainly to local restrictions, opting instead to duplicate hosting locations from ASA Pro/Am’s. We are genuinely excited to finally be able to come to Rend Lake and introduce our S3DA families to the recreation, conservation, and tournament experience this site has to offer. S3DA 3-D events have historically been held at locations that were already established tournament sites. Rend Lake Staff did an amazing job putting in the groundwork of making this event a huge success and we look forward to working with them for future events!”
The event also featured the Delta McKenzie North American Big Game Bowhunting Challenge, as well as the Heath McDonald Long Shot Challenge both of which Delta McKenzie Targets sponsors. The North American Big Game Bowhunting Challenge features adult/child teams who both shoot various 3-D big game targets such as grizzly, elk, and caribou. Once both team members have completed the course, their scores are tallied and compared against other archers in the student’s division and class. This brings family involvement together as well as tying into the conservation aspect of the S3DA program.
Collegiate archery programs (University of the Cumberland’s, Union College, Lindsey Wilson, Southern Illinois College, Campbellsville University, Kentucky Christian, etc.) were on hand to offer high school archers with significant scholarship opportunities during the event. Collegiate coaches, range officials, and volunteers facilitated the Young Adult and Youth division shoot-downs for awarding of the final podium finishes which was enjoyed by everyone in attendance.
