Registration Now Open for 2023 ATA Trade Show

The Archery Trade Association recently announced that registration is open for the 2023 ATA Trade Show. The 2023 members-only event is January 11-13 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. The ATA’s official hotel block is also open. Press registration opens Sept. 27, 2022.

“The ATA Show is the premier archery event of the year, putting more buyers in front of more sellers than any other show,” said ATA President and CEO Jeff Poole. “It’s also the best place to network, see the latest products and take advantage of educational opportunities, all under one roof.”

Over the last five in-person events, the ATA Show has averaged more than 600 exhibitors and 8,000-plus attendees. The ATA’s 2022 post-Show survey indicated 74 percent of exhibitors planned to release at least one new product at the 2023 Show.

Attendees can check out the latest gear, find new vendors, take advantage of exclusive Show offers and participate in educational opportunities. The 2023 Masterclass sessions will be presented by industry experts, seminars will be offered to help retailers navigate today’s business climate, and informal Coffee Talks will be held on the Show floor.

Buyer Day, dedicated specifically to verified buyers and exhibitors, kicks off the Show on Wednesday, January 11. The buyers have the floor to themselves, which allows plenty of opportunities to conduct business and network with the exhibitors. All other badge types, including press, media, supporting and nonprofit members, state agency representatives and nonexhibiting manufacturers, can access the Show floor on Thursday and Friday.

“Connections,” an ATA happy hour and archery industry celebration, also returns and takes place the first evening of the Show. Entertainment for the event, including an opening act and headliner performance, will be announced later this summer. Drinks and food will be provided at this popular industry networking event.

The floor plans are also available for exhibitors and attendees. Exhibitors can check out the available booth space and make reservations, if they haven’t already. Attendees can preview the floor plan and view a list of exhibitors currently attending the Show.

$50k Awarded in Random Scholarships by NASP

The National Archery in the School Program (NASP) finished the 2022 national tournament season with the completion of Western National, Eastern National, and Open Championship tournaments. The combined participation exceeded 16,000 student archers submitting scores. Thanks in part to the generosity of many of its sponsors, NASP was able to award $50,500 in random scholarships to more than 100 National-level tournament participants.

NASP believes every student benefits from consideration of their post-secondary education options, and having the opportunity to begin to think about that additional education attainment, is important for their future. The random scholarship awarding process was designed to inspire awarded students to consider their options after graduation by planting that “educational seed” and assisting students with their post-secondary educational expenses.

Koen Rauls, a student from New Tech Institute, was chosen for one of the random $500 awards and said, “I never expected to be chosen for a scholarship, and I feel like this is an opportunity to help with my radio and broadcasting career dreams. This will help me get started on my journey after high school.”

NASP, as an organization, continues to focus on the pursuit of academic success especially in light of the positive feedback from coaches and educators about how NASP is encouraging participation from disengaged students. Through random scholarships and the Academic Archer program, NASP continues to send the strongest of messages that it places tremendous value on success in the classroom and on the range.

S3DA Hosts Western 3-D and Outdoor Target National Championships

Scholastic 3-D Archery recently held its second annual Western 3-D National Championship and its first Western Outdoor Target National Championship in Palisade, Colorado, at the Cameo Shooting and Education Complex.

S3DA National Competition Coordinator Chris McDonald said, “The Western National S3DA Championships was a great event to witness. You can describe the scenery, but that won’t do it justice; it’s absolutely breathtaking. It was very educational for me to see the similarities and differences between the Eastern and Western National S3DA Events. All stakeholders were excited to finally be able to award Western National Shooter of the Year to the archers. I would encourage everyone to attend the Western S3DA events, and if you are a youth archer, definitely put this on your bucket list to shoot!”

More than 100 student archers from across the United States met to compete for the title of “Western National Champion” in their respective class and division. All archers that shot the 2022 Western S3DA Indoor, Western 3-D and Western Outdoor Target National Championships qualified for the Inaugural S3DA Western National Shooter of the Year.

Archers arrived first to compete in the qualification rounds of the Western Outdoor Target National Championship. After all archers completed their qualification rounds, they were seeded into a bracket based on their qualification scores to compete in head-to-head elimination matches. At the conclusion of the elimination matches, archers switched over to the 3-D format and shot the Western 3D National Championship.

Archers were dedicated to earning a podium placement as they battled high temperatures throughout the weekend of competition. Downwind Nock Busters, Blue Ridge Archers, Arrow Busters, Little Belt Archers, and Western Colorado Archers took home team trophies. Team scores are calculated by adding the top five scores shot by individuals from that team, without consideration of shooting class or gender.

S3DA Coach of Blue Ridge Archers, Amber Crapo said, “We are so proud of these kids and their heart and willingness to put in the work beforehand and then to dig deep when conditions are challenging, and the competition is so tight. My team did an amazing job and many of them earned themselves some hardware! This is a phenomenal group of kids. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with them and I look forward to next season.”

Team Mathews Wins Two IBO World Championships

Team Mathews had a dominant performance recently at the IBO World Championship in Seven Springs, Pennsylvania, including two first-place finishes in men’s and women’s pro classes.

Dan McCarthy took top honors as the men’s IBO World Champion in the Pro Male Release class, while his teammate Levi Morgan finished third. Joseph Goza from Team Darton took second (group photo below).

Team Mathews’ Cara Kelly was crowned IBO World Champion in the Pro Release Female class, while her teammate Lainey Smith finished third. Sharon Wallace from Team PSE took second.

“What a way to wrap up the 2022 IBO tournament circuit,” said Mathews Pro Staff Manager Derek Phillips. “I’m proud of how the whole team shot this weekend and all season long.”
