Team Mathews had a dominant performance recently at the IBO World Championship in Seven Springs, Pennsylvania — including first and second place in Pro Male Release.
Levi Morgan (above) took top honors as the men’s IBO World Champion in the Pro Male Release class while teammate Dan McCarthy finished in second place only two points behind.
“What a way to wrap up the 2021 IBO tournament circuit,” said Mathews Pro Staff Manager Derek Phillips. “Watching Morgan and McCarthy battle this season has been fun to watch. They are truly in their own class out there. I’m proud of how the whole team shot this weekend and all season long.”
McCarthy wrapped up the event with this Facebook post: “Like they say in Talladega Nights: ‘There’s nothing wrong with silver!’ IBO World Championship is a wrap. I made a mistake today on my first target, and that’s all it takes to lose the lead in this class. I still shot great all weekend, and I’m pleased with my second place performance. Sometimes, you just get outshot, and that’s what happened to me this weekend, and to the rest of the field, by Levi Morgan. Kudos on your win, Levi! I’m glad I was right there to experience it with ya!!”
The pressure of the moment is clearly evident in this Facebook post from Morgan: “The intensity and heaviness of every shot was hard to cope with to be honest. The reality was I knew if I missed an 11 I wouldn’t win, Dan is just that good. The final arrow was the most nerves I’ve ever felt and the most emotions I’ve ever had after a win. I’ve been pushed my entire life by competition but this year Dan has pushed me to a very uncomfortable place of demanding perfection. I’d love to take the credit for today but I just can’t. The last arrow my hands were trembling, my heart was racing, I felt like I couldn’t breathe under the pressure. I just asked the Lord to please help me cause I couldn’t do it alone. The shot broke so clean and smashed the 11 and I couldn’t be any happier.”
