World Record Clay Target Attempt: The Shooting Stage Is Set

I’ve always considered Argentina the quintessential proving ground for shotguns — old or new. Where else can wing-shooters burn through box after box of their favorite flavors of shotshells at an endless stream of live targets? Ducks, pigeons, doves, parakeets, oh my!

Argentina, where it’s not uncommon to tug the trigger more than a thousand times in a single day. The fields and marshes of this South American dream destination provide a stringent test of a shotgun’s durability, functionality and reliability — not to mention the skill of the shooter. And it’s the reason why many shotgun manufacturers travel there to evaluate new models before releasing them to the masses.

So, Argentina it is — if you want the fully test a shotgun’s mettle.

Not so fast. What if I was to tell you that there’s a much more stringent trial — one where five shooters will attempt to break more than 4,602 clay targets in the span of only 12 hours?

CZ-USA’s Shotgun Product Manager and Pro Shooter David Miller and four junior shooters will attempt to set the Guinness World Record for busting the most clay targets shot by a five-person team in a 12-hour period. The record attempt will take place at the Powder Creek Shooting Park in Lenexa, Kansas, on Oct. 12 starting at 10:12 a.m. and is open to the public.

The team members were selected based on an essay submitted to CZ-USA and their shooting score from a qualifying event at AIM or SCTP Nationals. In addition to Miller, the team consists of the following junior shooters:

  • Levi Hendrichs of Sibley, Iowa
  • Makayla Scott of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia
  • Jessica Strasser of Waterford, Wisconsin
  • Weston Zolck of Herman, Nebraska

“I’m really proud to be working with these young people for our record book attempt,” said Miller, the current Guinness World Records title holder for the most clay targets shot in one hour. “They are dedicated shooters with a great deal of energy and enthusiasm. With their amazing work ethic, I know we can set that new record!” (Click here to watch the video of Miller’s world record; he shot from the hip!)

This is an Official Guinness World Record attempt. All team members will use the new CZ-USA 1012 shotgun, which is pictured below. It's the company’s latest semi-auto, featuring a new gas-less inertia system.

Hold on to your hats! We’ll have the results to you on Monday.
