SHOT Show 2016 Floor Report Day 3
RISE Armament began business as a supplier of firearms components for gun makers but the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, company had enough of its own ideas that it began making and marketing its own products including barrels, compensators, bolt carrier groups, and trigger groups. It has recently added complete firearms to its lineup and, at this year’s SHOT Show introduced a new competition gun, the RA-313 Competition V2.
This new gun is designed to be a fast, dependable, and highly accurate rifle geared for competition such as 3-gun. It’s built using many of RISE Armament’s own parts and is chambered in .223 Wylde.
The RA-313’s barrel is the RISE Armament CB-188 Competition Barrel, a lightweight 18.8-inch fluted and contoured barrel fashioned from 416 stainless steel. It has a rifle-length gas system and an M4 nickel boron barrel extension.
Attached to the barrel is an RA-701 compensator. This unit is also constructed of 416 stainless steel and is designed to counteract recoil to help keep the muzzle on the target for accuracy and quick, effective follow-up shots.
The receiver is milled 7075 aluminum billet and has a mil-spec hardcoat for durability and good looks. It’s available in black or eye-catching red. The 15-inch handguard is colored to match the receiver.
The bolt carrier group is a RISE Armament nickel boron group for smooth reliability and bears the RISE logo. The gas system is a rifle-length adjustable system.
The RISE Armament RA-313 Competition v2 has an MSRP of $2,559 in black or $2,659 in red.
Slide Fire Stock
The Slide Fire rapid fire system was a huge hit several years ago at SHOT and it continues to be popular among shooters. New models have been added to the Slide Fire lineup and, this year, an updated version of the standard AR stock is being made available that incorporates improvements based on user feedback and developments since the original’s introduction.
The new SSAR-15 MOD Stock is a 6-position adjustable unit similar to standard AR carbine stocks. This makes getting a good fit easy for shooters of all sizes and wearing various clothing and gear. The new stock is also much tighter on the buffer tube than the previous model. Improved manufacturing has allowed tightening it up without sacrificing the free sliding that is necessary to perform the rapid firing.
The finger rest can easily be flipped from right-handed to left-handed shooting as needed. It simply pops off and snaps back into place without tools.
The control that allows switching between rapid fire and single shot fire has been moved to the base of the pistol grip. A quick and simple twist changes modes. Also, a new friction brake lockdown on the stock locks the stock even tighter on the buffer tube to ensure single shot fire and no play on the stock. The stock also has an ambidextrous QD sling mount.
The Slide Fire SSAR-15 MOD is available in black and will soon also be available in flat dark earth. It fits any standard AR-15 with a buffer tube for an adjustable stock. It has an MSRP of $299.95.
