Nighthawk Custom launched a new 1911 with a single port compensator, the Firehawk, and an innovative Interchangeable Optics System at the 2019 SHOT Show.
Known for producing quality 1911s, Nighthawk Custom just announced the launch of a couple new products. Another fine 1911, the Firehawk has the functional benefits of a compensator while maintaining the appearance sure to appeal to classic 1911 enthusiasts. Nighthawk Custom also unveiled a new optic mounting system, the Interchangeable Optics System (IOS).
Nighthawk Custom Firehawk
The Firehawk 1911 is available in two calibers, 9mm or .45 ACP. Featuring a Bull Barrel and full-length guide rod to add weight and reduce muzzle rise, the Firehawk’s modified government length slide has been shortened from 5 inches to 3.9 inches. A newly designed commander length spring and reverse plug system maintain the standard recoil of a 5-inch 1911.

A 14k solid gold bead front sight and Heinie Slant Pro solid blank rear sight combined with the compensated barrel allow for quick follow up shots. The Firehawk’s 5-inch barrel length allows for carry in standard government 1911 holsters while the whole thing has been dehorned to remove sharp edges. The Firehawk features a Nighthawk Custom prep that incorporates a French Border to showcase the craftsmanship involved in blending the compensator and slide together.
The new Firehawk has an MSRP of $4,199. It has an empty weight of 42.2 ounces, an overall length of 8.47 inches and a height of 5.6 inches. The Firehawk has a medium solid aluminum Nighthawk Custom trigger and 8-round magazine capacity.
Nighthawk Custom Interchangeable Optics System
The Nighthawk Custom IOS allows the user to change from iron sights to red dot optics in less than 30 seconds by loosening a set screw, pushing a pin out and sliding the plate off.
The system maintains zero with a tapered cut in the slide that returns the mount to the same spot each time. The IOS has three different plate options, compatible with the Trijicon RMR, the Viper Vortex and the RMSc Shield. The IOS allows for the user to maintain a standard height front sight while running a red dot optic.
The MSRP on the Nighthawk Custom Interchangeable Optic System is $350 and includes the standard iron sight plate, while additional plates are available for $150 each. Nighthawk Custom expects to expand and include new plates in the future.
