Truglo, Inc. was founded by competitive archer and hunter Paul LoRocco in 1993. He’d reached middle-age and found it increasingly difficult to distinguish each individual sight pin. Most sight pins of the era were brass with painted tips.
Through trial and error, LoRocco discovered that implementing a different colored fiber-optic strand into the end of his sight pins plainly distinguished each one. LoRocco then invented Truglo’s first product, the PWR-DOT sight pin.
It was available in three colors — red, green and yellow — and in 6/32-inch and 8/32-inch threads. This allowed the PWR-DOT pins to adapt to virtually any slotted bracket. They sold incredibly well, which encouraged LoRocco to create more innovative products and build the company. His story exemplifies the well-known proverb, “Necessity is the mother of invention.”
He went on to develop two more homeruns with the Deluxe PWR-DOT and the 3-pin Aperture. Meanwhile, LoRocco had unknowingly created a movement that forever changed the shooting sports industry. Colored fiber-optics are now incorporated into every imaginable aiming device.
Notable improvements are continually being implemented to Truglo’s existing products. For example, the LED light that comes with most Truglo archery sights is being upgraded to a brighter and more reliable model without increasing costs.
This year also marks the overhaul of Truglo’s entry-level Storm sight to the new Storm G2, improving the quality of ultra-affordable, entry-level sights. At the 2019 ATA Show, Truglo also launched the affordable EZRest, a fresh take on a popular brush-style arrow rest designed for easy set-up and tuning.
Listening to customer requests, Truglo now offers the Archer’s Choice Range-Rover Pro Duo (a single-pin style sight that uses a dual LED system instead of a traditional fiber-optic pin) as an upgrade kit — customers with previous models can migrate to the newest version without even changing sight tapes.
