Manufacturer Spotlight: PSE Archery

Established in 1971 by legendary archer Pete Shepley, PSE Archery continues to build topnotch bows for hunters and tournament shooters.

Manufacturer Spotlight: PSE Archery

Pete Shepley launched PSE Archery (www.pse-archery.com) back in 1971 because bows at that time didn’t meet his standards. When he debuted PSE’s first compound bow at an Indiana archery tournament, 200 orders came in within a week, then another 700 soon after.

PSE’s immediate success was no accident. Shepley’s engineering expertise, and passion for archery and bowhunting, plus his determination to improve, paved solid roads for the company, which has withstood the tests of time in competitive product categories.

In 1982, PSE relocated from Mahomet, Illinois, to Tucson, Arizona. The current facility encompasses an entire city block. Further, it holds more than 20 bow- and archery-design patents. The owner and employees are devoted archers and bowhunters, and their passion feeds PSE’s success.

PSE bows have always had their own distinct look that can’t be mistaken for another brand. That’s because the engineering team at PSE continually strives to innovate. In fact, Pete Shepley once said, “Research and development are the most expensive stages in manufacturing, but we’re committed to it and to making the whole industry grow, not just our slice of the pie.”

New to PSE’s lineup is its latest spin on carbon technology, the Carbon Air Stealth EF ($1,499.99). Part of the Vapor Series, it is feathery light at just 3.3 pounds. It’s available in Black, KUIU Verde and Mossy Oak Country. It unleashes a 342- to 350-fps IBO range and draws smoothly, thanks to the powerful yet shootable Evolve Cam System. Most notable is S-RAC Technology, which simplifies tuning via the Micro-Adjust Lateral Adjustment System. The Flex Rod System partners with the RollerGlide to beat lateral cable torque and provide a friction-free draw cycle.

Folks looking to save some bucks on a high-end bow will find the Evoke 31 ($999.99 to $1,049.99) difficult to beat. Letoff ranges from 80 to 90  percent, and the IBO speed range is 336 to 342 fps.

Also powered by the high-performance Evolve Cam System, the 31-inch Evoke provides a generous valley and smooth transition from the valley to the rock-solid back wall. Like the Carbon Air Stealth EF, it employs the Flex Rod System and RollerGlide. Kolorfusion finish options include Mossy Oak Country, Kuiu Verde, Kryptek Altitude and Realtree Edge. Tactical colors are tan and charcoal.
