Legendary innovator, the late Andy Simo, was working for Lockheed in the 1960s, performing structural-integrity work on the Saturn rocket. He became restless and decided to align his livelihood and bowhunting passion. In 1971, he founded New Archery Products.
“Simo developed the wildly famous Flipper Rest for recurve shooters,” NAP’s Chris Kozlik remembered. “Building on this success, he revolutionized broadheads by introducing the Razorbak broadhead — history’s first replaceable-bladed broadhead.
“With his products gaining traction in the archery field,” Kozlik continued, “Simo went on to develop the most famous broadhead of all time, the Thunderhead (top photo). Even after 40 years, the Thunderhead is still a go-to broadhead.”
Of course, good products alone didn’t elevate NAP to its current market position.
“Simo couldn’t have achieved such success without the love and dedication of his long-time employees,” Kozlik said. “Being one of the kindest and most generous men one could ever meet, many of his employees were with NAP for more than 40 years. Employee loyalty has always been outstanding with very little turnover.”
Kozlik shared that he and the NAP team are incredibly optimistic about 2019’s offerings.
“The Dark Knight is a 100- or 125-grain broadhead featuring a main pivoting blade designed to rotate easily when encountering hard bone, then quickly returning to its original position,” Kozlik said. “This preserves kinetic energy and forward momentum to maximize pass-through potential. The large main blade is supported by dual rear-deploying bleeder blades to make truly massive entrance wounds. It comes in standard and crossbow models.
“We also developed a Spitfire mechanical broadhead specifically for ultra-fast crossbows,” Kozlik continued. “The 450 utilizes the same game changing blade-retention system as the standard Spitfire, but has been adjusted to retain the blades in flight at speeds up to 450 fps.”
To that end, NAP will continue chasing the crossbow market.
“It’s plainly obvious that crossbow technology is still annually skyrocketing,” Kozlik said. “NAP is committed to providing crossbow shooters with the most durable and dependable broadheads for their ultra-high speed crossbows.”
